step by step: the path of vinyasa yoga
a retreat
with kristin leigh and barbara verrochi

may 11-13, 2012
kripalu

For intermediate and advanced students with at least 6 months of experience.
Vinyasa is a Sanskrit word that means "to place in a special way." It refers to a style of yoga that strings movement and breath together into meditative action. K. Pattabhi Jois, developer of Ashtanga Yoga, taught, slowly and carefully, one posture at a time, according to each practitioner's strength and flexibility. Each posture was linked to the next, laying the groundwork for the one that would come after. He believed that doing the right poses in the right order, over a long period of time, would create expansiveness in the mind and body.

This weekend offers
• Daily vinyasa classes with kirtan and guided meditations
• Discussion of vinyasa in the context of Ashtanga Yoga
• Ways of grouping postures together to prepare the body for succeeding postures
• Necessary steps for challenging poses such as Lotus and arm balances
• How to focus our minds on truth, honesty, equanimity, and service.
