what is mysore ashtanga yoga?
mysore ashtanga is a set sequence of postures practiced in a quiet room with personal attention from the teacher. mysore ashtanga at the shala is taught according to the methods of sri k. pattabhi jois, and is named after the city in south india where he lives and teaches. it is a vinyasa system that brings together breathing and physical movement. over time the body becomes light and strong and the mind becomes calm and steady.

is it the right practice for me?
many people think they must be advanced in yoga before attempting a mysore practice. this is not the case. flexibility is not required, and prior knowledge of the sequence is not necessary. mysore ashtanga is a very rewarding practice for beginners and only requires a commitment to showing up at least 3 times a week. the sequence is taught a little at a time, as the teacher assists the postures. consistency brings positive results.
