Shala directors Kristin Leigh and Barbara Verrochi
about the shala
in 2002, kristin leigh and barbara verrochi founded the shala, which means home or abode in sanskrit, to create a place and community where—in the chaos of new york city life—people could practice yoga, breathe and be at home in their bodies.

classes at the shala are a challenging, thoughtful blend of asana, chanting and meditation. teachers focus on intelligent sequencing in a vinyasa style format, emphasizing the connection between breath and movement from asana to asana. this practice builds strength and flexibility in the body and steadiness in the mind.
